Keithley Instruments Model 2800 Firmware Upgrade Notice for KE2800 VISA Instrument Driver Support. 05/08/2003 This file contains additional information regarding the installation and use of the ROM and DSP upgrade software for the Model 2800 RF Power Analyzer. Please review the contents of this file before installing or using the ROM Upgrade software. Introduction The Model 2800 mainframe requires firmware revision A05 to work properly with KE2800 VISA Instrument Driver. If the firmware revision of your instrument is lower than A05 a ROM upgrade is required. The Model 2800 DSP requires revision A06 to work properly with KE2800 VISA Instrument Driver. If the DSP revision of your instrument is lower than A06 a DSP upgrade is required. This upgrade can also be used for those who wish to have the latest firmware enhancements and upgrades installed on their instrument. Step 1. Determine the firmware and DSP revision of your Model 2800 The firmware(mainframe) and DSP revision is briefly displayed during the power-on sequence of the instrument. When the instrument is turned on, all display annunciators will turn on for a short period of time. After that, the firmware and DSP revision will be briefly displayed as follows: REV: yyy zzz where: yyy is the mainframe revision (e.g., A04 of the Model 2800). zzz is the DSP revision (e.g., A05 of the Model 2800). To determine the firmware(maimframe) and DSP revision remotely, use the *IDN? query command. After sending the *IDN? command and addressing the instrument to talk, the following response message is sent to the computer: KEITHLEY INSTRUMENTS INC.,MODEL wwww,xxxxxxx,yyy/zzz/aaa where: wwww is the mainframe model (2800). xxxxxxx is the serial number of the mainframe. yyy is the firmware revision of the mainframe. zzz is the display board firmware revision. aaa is the DSP revision (e.g., A05 of the Model 2800). Step 2. Determine the next course of action Based on the firmware revision of your Model 2800, choose the appropriate course of action: a) If the firmware revision is A05 or higher on the Model 2800, an upgrade is not needed. b) If the firmware revision is A04 or lower on the Model 2800, an upgrade IS required. This upgrade can also be used for those who wish to have the latest firmware enhancements and upgrades installed on their instrument. Proceed to Step 3 to perform the upgrade. Based on the DSP revision of your Model 2800, choose the appropriate course of action: a) If the DSP revision is A06 or higher on the Model 2800, an upgrade is not needed. b) If the DSP revision is A05 or lower on the Model 2800, an upgrade IS required.
